Ill

As if muscle injuries is not enough punishment for me now I have cought an infection which now prevents me from running at all. The good side from this is that at least now I have no choice and HAVE to rest until that's fixed.

In Running Limbo

Where am I? I mean formwise? What's next?
I am still injured. I can run slowly with little effort, but not without pain. I did a 20k last week in 1:30 and although that felt good my muscles were locked up afterwards. I think I suffer from multiple instances of "cronic muscle tears".
Today I planned another slow 20k in 1:40 but had to shorten it to 16k. My hamstring was too sore to do more. Although apart from that I felt I could run more. I want to run more. But I can't. Tough.
I need to sort this out. The next project is the 10th November run where I am going to meet some of the 'family' (that is the WHW Race Family). That will not be a race but a longer run but I hope I will be ready by then. 3 weeks to go.

No Loch Ness Marathon

This was the second Marathon I registered for and did not run. The first one was Berlin 2005.

I was at the finish though and took photos from 2:20 up to 3:40 ish finishing time. A lot of photos. I am going to post them in some sort of shape. Unfortunatley my camera went on strike intermittendly since I dropped it so I did not catch all runnners.

Anyway my "race" season is now over and I managed 3 Marathons this year:
Bonn 2:57
Edinburgh: 2:56
Berlin: 2:50 (PB)

Now I have to take care of my injuries and get into shape again slowly. I will also do a few long runs over the autumn and winter. Next priority is not to gain weight over the winter that is in particular over christmas (very important!). Not sure if I manage that though.

Loch Ness Marathon?

Yes, I will be there. I'll drive up to Inverness and I'll pick up my race number on Saturday and I will take the bus from Drumnadrochit the next morning which will bring me to the start. But will I be able to run at all?
The good news is I can walk again without major pain. After resting Monday and Tuesday went for a slow paced recovery run today. After running for 15 seconds I had to give up. My right hamstring is causing severe pain. The pain is sharp and compelling. Not that kind which goes away after 10 minutes of warm up. Lets wait and see if it get's better tomorrow.

Berlin Marathon with new PB!

The last week before the race I kept worrying about my hamstring
injuries. I could hardly walk without pain and started to prepare
mentally for a DNF result.
Well to cut it short: The hamstring was holding up and I finished in a new PB and almost managed my Plan A result which was a 4:00/k. I am more than happy!
Although the second half was more than 2 minutes slower than the first I consider
my run as evenly paced. Maybe I manage a negative split in the WHW Race (only joking!).

Here are the statistics:
Total (chip): 02:50:37
1st half: 01:24:09
2nd half: 01:26:28

A great feature of the Berlin Marathon are the splits every 5k (although
British competitors would surely prefer Miles here).
5 km: 00:19:56 / 00:19:56
10 km: 00:39:53 / 00:19:58
15 km: 00:59:41 / 00:19:48
20 km: 01:19:40 / 00:20:00
25 km: 01:39:52 / 00:20:12
30 km: 02:00:08 / 00:20:17
35 km: 02:20:34 / 00:20:26
40 km: 02:41:36 / 00:21:03
