It has been a while since I last blogged. Ages in fact.Maybe Facebook has taken some of the attention to communicate with the public domain. Although Facebook can be a rather messy business with thousands of updates and posts per day and difficult to follow... excuses, excuses...
Anyway: I certainly owe those who are following my blog an update:
I am running again and have returned to a (almost) normal training routine. The knee is not exactly what it was before and I still can't (or don't want to) put full weight on it. But I can run and train again almost as before the injury and surgery. My running style has changed slightly. I try to run with less impact. I also try do work on my core strength to support a more efficient running style. Maybe it works out for me. time will tell.
To summarize my training since the injury/surgery here is the weekly mileage
Please note that the mileage for the first weeks after the operation is mainly walking.
Anyway as you can see I have picked up a very decent weekly average again and I am optimistic to get back into good shape. Most of my running is on the flat at the moment. Although I did run Andrew Murray's "Winter Ultra" (27 miles) from Kinlochleven to Tyndrum (that certainly was NOT flat) and the 30 miles from Balmaha to Inversnaid and back on the WestHighlandWay Training weekend. That certainly was NOT flat too.
The next ultra for me will be FLAT though: the Glasgow-Edinburgh Ultra a 56 (ish) mile ultra which follows the course of the Forth & Clyde and Union canals and takes
in the Antonine Wall and the Falkirk Wheel before leading competitors
into the heart of Edinburgh.
I have done that race twice before with a PB of 6:55. This race will also be a qualifying criteria for the selection for the Scottish 100k Team so I want to get it right and hopefully get a PB. Let's wait and see.
